LCSD Announces new Director of Teaching Quality and Staff Development
Lakeland Catholic School Division (LCSD) is pleased to announce Julie Chorney as Director of Teaching and Quality Staff Development beginning in August 2021.
Chorney was born and raised in Calgary, and attended Calgary Catholic School Division for grades K-12.
After obtaining both a Bachelor of Education and a Bachelor of Arts in 1997 from the University of Calgary, teaching with Calgary Catholic (1997-2001) offered an excellent start to her professional career.
When her husband, Greg, was posted to CFB Cold Lake in 2001, Lakeland Catholic School Division quickly became her work family. She obtained a Master of Education in Educational Leadership, specializing in Educator Collaboration and Professional Learning from the University of Calgary(2016).
Chorney is a true believer in lifelong learning; she enters every situation expecting to gain new skills, knowledge or insights.
In the role of classroom teacher (2002-2009) and as an Instructional Coach/Coordinator in the areas of New Teacher Support, Curriculum, Religious Education/Faith and Literacy (2009-present), Chorney has served all LCSD stakeholders at all of the division’s schools. She admires and seeks to understand and support the unique and valuable context of each building and community. One of her goals has, and will continue to be, to support and empower cross division collaboration, as she has been privileged to see the brilliance that each site holds.
When asked about her new role, Julie said, “I am humbled that I will have the opportunity to continue to formally serve the whole of our division and our community stakeholders. I am so proud of our division and all that it has and will continue to accomplish.” Julie is known for her commitment to her work, always keeping the success of our students as her motivator.
She is bolstered by the scripture, “Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us, and prosper for us the work of our hands.” (Psalm 90:17), trusting that the Lord will always bless our work.
Outside of school, Chorney enjoys spending time with her husband and son (Kurtis), creating some form of art every day, reading and simply being outdoors. She and her family are active members of St. Dominic and Our Lady of the Assumption Parishes in Cold Lake where Julie thoroughly enjoys teaching sacramental preparation classes.
Julie will commence the position as Director of Teaching and Quality and Staff Development in August 2021.
Congratulations Julie! May God bless you and reward you with success in this new position.
