RCMP charge male with firearm and drug offences on Saddle Lake Cree Nation

The Mounties have taken more drugs off the street.

In the afternoon of May 25, an RCMP officer of the Eastern Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit (EAD CRU) was on patrol on Saddle Lake Cree Nation when the officer observed a male known to be prohibited Canada wide from operating a motor vehicle.

The officer conducted a traffic stop with the assistance of the St. Paul RCMP.

This vehicle stop resulted in a search of the vehicle that resulted in the seizure of: a semi-automatic pistol, a shotgun, a quantity of ammunition, over 100 grams of methamphetamine, 80 grams of cocaine and 36 grams of psilocybin (magic mushrooms).

Sean Wilfred Moosewah, 32, of Saddle Lake Cree Nation was charged with:

• Operating a motor vehicle while prohibited (x3)
• Possession for the purpose of trafficking (x5)
• Possession of a weapon for a purpose dangerous
• Unauthorized possession of a firearm knowing possession unauthorized (x2)
• Possession of a firearm/ammunition in motor vehicle (x2)
• Possession of a weapon obtained by crime (x2)
• Careless use of a firearm
• Unauthorized possession of a firearm (x2)
• Possession of weapon contrary to order and fail to surrender authorization (x4)
• Fail to comply with release conditions (x4)

“This is another example of the crime reduction unit targeting repeat offenders,” says Sgt. David Graham, the Unit Commander for EAD CRU. “It is a small percent of the population committing more serious crimes and that is who we are focused on.”

Following a judicial hearing, Moosewah was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in St. Paul Provincial Court on June 10, 2021.
