Culprits drill gas tank in Cold Lake

One resident in Cold Lake woke up this morning to find a hole drilled in the gas tank by someone leaving the vehicle empty on fuel.

Stealing gas by drilling the tank causes a huge amount of damage to the vehicles. The vehicle that was targeted was parked near Grand Centre Golf and Country Club near 4424 on 50th Ave in Cold Lake.

Doryn Cross is a Media Relations Officer with the RCMP Cold Lake Detachment.

“I can confirm that within the past seven days we have had one reported incident of a gas tank being drilled out and fuel being stolen,” Cross told Lakeland Connect. “No charges have been laid in this incident as there is no suspect at this time.”

Cross says as this is a criminal offence, the repercussions would be the same as committing any other Criminal Code offence. The RCMP is also warning residents not to approach someone who is drilling a tank.

“We do not recommend residents confront someone in the act,” Cross said. “We ask that you call either 911, Cold Lake RCMP’s after hours complaint line at 780-594-3301, or your local police detachment.”
