Luc Mercier leaves M.D. CAO position
The M.D. of Bonnyville is set to replace their chief administrative officer.
Luc Mercier worked his final day for the M.D. on April 1 before exiting the CAO role. He is heading to take the CAO job at Yellowhead County, west of Edmonton, which he began Monday.
Mercier was hired in September 2018 and oversaw many changes to the organizational structure of the municipality.
“I thank you for your respectful treatment of me, for putting your trust in giving guidance to the administrative side of the M.D. and for allowing me to be able to enjoy this region for two and a half years,” said Mercier at his last council meeting on March 24th.
Matt Janz, the general manager of environmental and protective services, is now the acting CAO until the municipality hires a replacement.
“We, as council, certainly want to thank you for everything that you’ve done for the M.D.,” said Reeve Greg Sawchuk during the March 24th council meeting.
“We know it hasn’t been easy dealing with the group of seven and that you’re headed onto another place where the challenges will be new, but, hopefully, you have a council who are equally as hard on you and that they won’t give you an easy break,” he said.
“But certainly, Luc, we appreciate all you’ve done here and we wish you the best of luck in the western part [of Alberta] and we will pay you a visit when we’re coming through there.”
