Bold Center sports fields on track to be done this summer

The construction of sports fields at the Bold Center is currently on track to be done this summer.

Lac La Biche County council received an update on Phase 2 of the Bold Center expansion at last Tuesday’s council meeting.

Three new ball diamonds, a natural irrigated sports field, and campground space should be finished soon.

“Weather permitting, a lot of that will get done,” said Mayor Omer Moghrabi on The Day After Debrief. “It’s going to be a very nice complex when it’s done.”

Associate CAO, Recreation & Community Services, Darrell Lessmeister, reported to council on Tuesday that Phase 1 is nearly complete on the track, with lines needing to be painted, which should be finished by early May.

Phase 2 was the three ball diamonds and the natural turf field, which the great majority has been completed. They are waiting on laying the sod this spring and then weather permitting, hooking up the irrigation system. The aim is to be finished by early summer.

These fields will be used by the nearby J.A. Williams High School, Portage College, and minor sports groups.

The campgrounds should be ready to open in June with picnic tables and other small features coming.

The next phase of development for the Bold Center would include changerooms, washrooms, bleacher section, security fencing, scoreboard, LED sign, utilities, storm sewer, throwing events, a maintenance building, and a high jump area.
