Vermilion Soccer Association taking registrations
The Vermilion Soccer Association (VSA) is now taking registration for a modified season in 2021.
They are currently looking to create teams of eight to maintain three-metre distances, and play no games under the current public health orders.
“It’s challenging as the restrictions are changing all the time. Because we were completely shut down last year, as an executive we were completely excited to just get the kids out on the pitch- socializing with some of their peers and enjoying that time outside,” said registrar Danielle Eriksen.
“My children are pumped. They are jacked to be able to play, even if they can’t play games.”
With everyone anxious and excited to get going, she said there are teams for just about every age level. The VSA offers U5 – U19 groups meaning children born as recent as 2018 can play (those parents have to be on the field), and the oldest players will be born in 2002.
Registration will have to be completed by March 31 to avoid a $25 late fee. When accepting late registrations they can’t promise that there will be open spots on a team, and will depend on how full they already are.
Eriksen feels soccer is a fairly low-risk activity for her own children that they can participate in, with players running through drills with their own balls, working on footwork, and shooting without the risk of transmission.
“Soccer can be one of the safer activities that you can do in this pandemic world,” said Eriksen.
“Being outside on the soccer pitch is not just outside play, which is great for mental health and exercise, but they are still getting the practice there they will need for game situation, and very easily follow the regulations put in place. There is a lot of space outside, but everyone can still feel like part of a team because they are all working together in a safe environment.”
She said they will know more specifics next week after the spring planning meeting for the Lakeland Soccer District.
Parents are encouraged to register for their virtual AGM on March 31. By then she said they will have all the details on the season that parents will be looking for.
To register for the AGM, you can email vsa.reg.agm@gmail.com to ask to be put on the list to receive a Zoom link. This email will also work to contact Danielle Eriksen to receive registration forms, register for the season or to ask questions.
