Civilian truck and train involved in incident this morning near Hwy. 16

County of Vermilion River Protective Services reported an incident involving a train and a passenger truck Tuesday morning.

County Fire Chief, Kirk Hughes, said the driver of the truck was not hurt and was taken to hospital as a precaution.

The nature of the incident is currently unknown and police did not disclose details at this point.

The fire call was received at approximately at 8:20am. Kitscoty Fire Department was dispatched to the scene of the collision on Range Road 34 near Highway 16 just west of Kitscoty.

Hughes responded in County #1, along with a County Engine, Village Rescue as well as AHS, RCMP, and CN Rail.

With no major injuries reported, control of the scene was handed over to CN Rail for further inspection. By 10:30am all fire trucks were back at the hall and in service.

After reaching out to the Kitscoty RCMP, Cpl White said the investigation is ongoing. “Happily we reported no injuries, however, there was some property damage,” said Cpl White.

“We’re happy everybody is safe and defensive driving skills prevailed.”
