Bonnyville RCMP confirmed some details about a two-vehicle collision that shut down highway traffic on January 22.

Police responded west of Bonnyville on Highway 28 where a civilian vehicle and an RCMP vehicle had been in a collision on the curve of the highway, which shut down traffic from both directions from Township Road 604 to Range Road 464.

Sgt. Kim Hillier said the officer was heading out of town before the collision occurred to arrest “a high-risk offender who is known to be very violent with police.”

There were no injuries police said and everyone was released by EMS at the scene.

The icy road conditions were the main factor in the collision, Sgt. Hillier said, and there were no charges laid.

“We are all very thankful that no one was injured as the vehicles were badly damaged,” said Hillier.
