Be mindful of restrictions: Director of Emergency Management

A Message from the Regional Director of Emergency Management

Since my last update on January 11, 2021, the Region of St. Paul most certainly experienced a significant increase in COVID-19 cases, when we saw 149 active cases on January 16th.

This was the third-highest day since the pandemic began. Thankfully, our region’s numbers have decreased substantially. As of January 26th, we currently sit at 606 total cases, with 68 being active, and 535 recovering.

Sadly, another death has been reported for our region by AHS bringing our total to 3. Our sincerest condolences to the  family and our thoughts are with all those individuals and families having to deal with infections and quarantines.

I know all this information can be overwhelming, but I do think it’s important for the Region to understand  where we are at.

Up to date information regarding COVID-19 for the Region of St. Paul and the Province can be found at COVID-19 Alberta statistics | alberta.ca

As we have all heard, AHS identified over last weekend the first case of the B.1.1.7 variant that was not linked to any travel. Alberta Health Services continues to investigate, as this is a potentially concerning development.

My office has had many calls regarding the current restrictions, and if they will be lifted anytime soon.  Unfortunately, like all of you, I don’t have any advance knowledge of that, and anxiously wait for announcements like the rest of you. What I can do, is to encourage everyone to continue to be mindful of the restrictions, avoid gatherings, wear a mask when indoors, and to continually wash your hands.

Regards,

Trevor Kotowich
