Bonnyville AGM an Ag-cellent chance to get involved in the community

The group involved with putting some of the biggest events in Bonnyville is looking for new members.

The Bonnyville Ag Society is holding their annual general meeting next Wednesday over Zoom, where the volunteers will go over the year’s financials, bylaws, and elect a new board.

The Ag Society is part of putting the concert and big truck show in Mudfest, the World Professional Chuckwagon Association races, rodeo, and Fall Fair–but in 2020, treasurer Katrina Reid said it was quiet due to gathering restrictions.

“Nothing happened at the Bonnyville Ag this year. We had a couple of weddings. That’s it,” said Reid. “Usually, we do our Fall Fair in September…no chucks. No rodeo. No Mudfest. No nothing.

“I’m hoping the COVID restrictions are going to be lifted and Mudfest will go ahead. Fall Fair’s a big one. I actually have most of the weekends that are not booked for big events booked for weddings already. So let’s hope it goes through.”

However, chuckwagon drivers will see a different track whenever they return to the Bonnyville Pro Rodeo Grounds, which had major work done the past summer.

The non-profit is always looking for new members who believe in the value of agriculture and helping to make Bonnyville and area a great place to live, work and play.

“There’s a lot of people in town that come to Bonnyville, sit at home, and just don’t know how to meet people. It’s a great way to meet people too,” said Reid.

To register for the AGM, you can go to the bonnyvilleagsociety.com to sign up for the meeting.

There is also a $5 membership fee required to be paid by members at the AGM.

It begins at 7:00pm on Wednesday, January 27.
