Two Hills County, Lac La Biche County see COVID infections rise over weekend

Two Hills County will likely be going under enhanced health measures with now more than 10 active cases of COVID-19 within the municipality.

With eight new cases since Friday, there are now 14 active cases, 22 recoveries, and one death within Two Hills listed on Alberta’s virus data map.

There is now 52 active cases of COVID-19 in the Lac La Biche area as of Monday afternoon, an uptick of 22 new positive tests since Friday. There have been 18 recoveries in the Lac La Biche area total.

In the St. Paul-Saddle Lake “local geographic area” on the Alberta virus map reads there is 90 active cases and 192 recoveries, which is 31 new positive tests since Friday. Saddle Lake News, Events, and Information page’s last report on Sunday evening said there is 45 active cases on reserve and 139 recoveries.

There is 23 active cases and 66 recoveries in the Bonnyville area as of Monday, 11 new infections since Friday. Kehewin Communications reported Sunday that there is 10 active cases and 33 recoveries on reserve.

In the Cold Lake area, ten new positives were reported since Friday, however active cases remain similar to before the weekend. There is 62 active cases and 60 recoveries.

Twenty-two cases are active in the Smoky Lake area and there is 27 recoveries, nine new infections since Friday.

Seven cases are active in the Frog Lake area with 11 recoveries.

Vermilion River County’s active cases have fluctuated over the past several days. There are eight active cases with 22 recoveries, and one death total within the municipality.

Provincial update

On Monday, chief medical officer Dr. Deena Hinshaw reported 1,733 new cases of the virus after over 20,000 tests in Alberta.

This is a single-day high in the province after 1,731 new cases on Saturday and 1,608 on Sunday.

Dr. Hinshaw said there is an 8.4 per cent positivity rate for testing in the province.

Hospitalizations continue to rise with 453 in hospital and 96 of those in intensive care.

Eight new deaths were reported and there has been 541 COVID-related deaths.
