Rock the Sock a stocking stuffer for FASD clients

Lakeland FASD is continuing one of their annual Christmas-themed giving drives this year.

As part of the global event Giving Tuesday, the first Tuesday of December, Lakeland FASD has been collecting donations for Rock the Sock, where they give stockings to their younger clients.

As Michele Huszar, program developer for the Lakeland Centre explains, it’s just part of doing something meaningful during the holidays.

“We know that giving makes us feel like we’re contributing to society in a way that makes a difference,” said Huszar.

“I feel that doing the stockings is a way for somebody to do something in a meaningful way to create that holiday spirit or celebration of as much as we do stuff for our family that we can do something for someone else.”

So far, there are at least 30 clients from 15 to 24-years-old who will be reaching a little Christmas cheer, and there’s still time to donate before Giving Tuesday begins.

“It can be from toiletries, socks, gloves, mitts, books, puzzles, treats, anything that you would put in a stocking. And then we’re going to meet here next Tuesday, December 1 from 1-4 in the afternoon and put the stockings together,” she said.

“Our workers are outreach workers and our mentors have put in names of clients, and then they will hand them out to their clients before Christmas.”

This is the third year the Lakeland Centre for FASD has done Rock the Sock.
