Outbreak declared at Imperial’s Cold Lake operations

Imperial’s Cold Lake operations has been designated an outbreak location by Alberta Health Services (AHS), this weekend, the company announced on Saturday.

It is unknown how many positive tests stem from the outbreak, but the designation means there are at least two cases coming from the site.

In Bonnyville’s “local geographic area” on the AHS COVID data map, there are 26 active cases and 45 recoveries. Kehewin Communications reports 19 active cases and 21 recoveries on Saturday with one person in the hospital with the virus.

Cold Lake area’s numbers are rising with 38 active cases, including a positive test at the Cold Lake Lodge late last week. There has been 35 recoveries in the area, including 16 on Cold Lake First Nations. One active is on active on reserve.

There are 83 active infections and 131 recoveries in the St. Paul-Saddle Lake local area on Sunday evening. Saddle Lake, currently in a circuit breaker shutdown, reported seven new cases on Saturday. The Nation’s News, Events, and Information page said there are 65 active cases and 96 recovered.

Eighteen cases are active in the Lac La Biche area with 12 recovered. Aurora Middle School will be closed Monday as more positive cases have been linked to the school. Deep cleaning will start Monday and students not deemed close contacts by Tuesday may return to class.

In counties closer to the mid-west, there is just one active within Vermilion River County and one in Two Hills County.

In the Smoky Lake area, there is nine active cases.

In Alberta on Sunday, 1584 new cases were reported, the largest single-day case count since the day before when there 1336 new cases.

There are 319 in hospital with 60 of those in intensive care the province reports.
