New Mayor and councillor

Village of Myrnam Mayor Donna Rudolf confirmed Coun. Kurt Ewanec was elected by acclamation in October.

Ewanec was the only person to submit nomination papers in time for the Oct. 14 deadline, and so a by-election was not necessary to fill the seat on the village council, which became vacant when longtime Mayor Ed Sosnowski resigned in August.

“Kurt Ewanec was sworn in at the Oct. 22 organizational meeting,” said Rudolf, who was appointed mayor at the same meeting.

According to Rudolf, most things in the Village of Myrnam are at a “relative standstill” because of COVID-19, the virus which has caused numerous events to be cancelled in the interest of public health.

“We’re mostly just waiting to see what’s going to happen,” said Rudolf.

Raymond Yaremchuk was appointed Deputy Mayor, solidifying the council the three person council.

He has served on council for 19 years.
