Police Dog Services tracks down three during RCMP investigation

Cold Lake RCMP have arrested three people who fled from police after a traffic stop last week.

In the early morning on Tuesday Oct. 27, Cold Lake RCMP said they observed a suspicious vehicle bearing a stolen license plate.

The officer initiated a traffic stop when the truck quickly fled the scene, RCMP said. The suspect vehicle entered a field where they became stuck and continued to flee on foot.

RCMP Police Dog Service was deployed and three suspects were arrested.

Cold Lake RCMP said one suspect suffered a minor injury from a dog bite.

PDS located a loaded AR-15 style firearm and a duffle bag with several loaded magazines located near the truck on the track.

James Lees (22) was charged with 33 offences, some of which include the following:

  • Flight from police
  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
  • Driving while prohibited
  • Possession of stolen property under $5,000
  • Possession of a prohibited weapon (x7)
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of a prohibited weapon knowing it was prohibited (x7)
  • Possession for dangerous purpose (x2)
  • Possession of prohibited weapon in a Motor Vehicle (x7)

Lees was remanded into custody and set to appear in Bonnyville Provincial Court on Tuesday morning at 10:00 am.

Myles Desjarlais (40) was charged with 17 offences, some of which include the following:

  • Flight from police
  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
  • Possession of stolen property under $5,000
  • Possession of a prohibited weapon (7x)
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of a prohibited weapon knowing it was prohibited (7x)
  • Possession for dangerous purpose (2x)
  • Possession of prohibited weapon in a motor vehicle (7x)
  • Fail to comply with release order (3x)

Desjarlais was released and set to appear in Cold Lake Provincial Court on December 8 at 10:00 am.

Miah Hartley (18) was charged with the following:

  • Flight from police
  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
  • Possession of stolen property under $5,000
  • Possession of a prohibited weapon (7x)
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of a prohibited weapon knowing it was prohibited (7x)
  • Careless use of a firearm
  • Possession for dangerous purpose (2x)

Hartley was released and set to appear in Cold Lake Provincial Court on December 8 at 10:00 am.
