Active COVID-19 cases at 17 in Cold Lake area, daycare closes

There are 17 active cases of COVID-19 in Cold Lake’s “Local Geographic Area” on the AHS virus data map as of Thursday.

Happy House Daycare in Cold Lake South will be closed for a minimum of three days, as they announced a positive infection of someone related to the facility earlier Thursday.

Cold Lake First Nation is reporting six on-reserve cases, four active cases that have been transferred to AHS, with nine people on-reserve who have recovered.

Within St. Paul’s local area, there are 14 active cases, six of which reported by Saddle Lake Cree Nation in their last update on Wednesday.

Saddle Lake Health Care Centre has reported an outbreak and will be closed until further notice. Eighty people have been deemed close contacts are being monitored by SLHCC.

In the Bonnyville area, there are currently 11 active cases. Five cases are active in Kehewin in their last update on Wednesday.

There is one active case in the Frog Lake area, as well as the Lac La Biche area.

In Vermilion’s local geographic area, there are three active cases, one case listed in Lloydminster, and one closer to Minburn.

Infections are listed as recovered in the Smoky Lake area.

477 new cases in Alberta

There are 130 Albertans in hospital due to COVID-19, the highest recorded number so far during the pandemic, as of Thursday.

Eighteen of those are in intensive care.

Chief medical officer, Dr. Deena Hinshaw, reported 477 new cases on Thursday and five deaths in the past 24 hours.

Eighty-five per cent of active cases in the province are in the Edmonton and Calgary zones.
