Last week, Co-op convenience stores across the Lakeland participated in their third annual Fuel Good Day and raised over $4000  in support of local non-profit organizations and food banks

Lakeland Co-op in Bonnyville raised a total of $1400 for the town’s Victim Services, while Cornerstone Co-op locations in Vermilion, St. Paul and area raised $2700 for each community food bank, in spite of ongoing road construction creating hurdles for Vermilion residents.

“We’re happy to be able to give back to our community and support the food bank because with COVID, the oilfield, and everything else families are really in need this year,” said Cornerstone staff member Dennis Reid.

Bonnyville’s location donated 10 cents per litre from every fuel purchase, while both Lakeland and Cornerstone Co-op donated one dollar for every Co-operative Coffee or Big Cool drink purchased throughout the day.

Meanwhile Cornerstone locations in Vermilion, Wainwright, and St. Paul also donated five cents from every litre of fuel purchased.

In 2019, Lakeland Co-op managed to raise approximately $1100 for the Bonnyville Boys and Girls Club, while between each of the four participating communities over $4000 was raised.

Fuel Good Day is expected to return sometime next year for it’s fourth outing with a new organization in mind to receive the donation.
