Vehicle crimes reported in Bonnyville

Bonnyville RCMP reported 131 calls this past week, with a number of car thefts and vehicle related crimes reported in and around the community.

A resident approached the RCMP’s front counter to report her white 2004 Pontiac Bonneville had been stolen September 22nd.

She stated that their vehicle had broken down on the side of the road Friday night, and the next day had received a call from an officer to report a smashed window.

Stolen license plate

When the owner returned to pick up the vehicle it was gone.

That same day a vehicle collision was reported near Kehewin. Officers found two females in a vehicle with a stolen license plate, and that the vehicle was both unregistered and uninsured. The driver, a 24-year-old female from Edmonton, was arrested for possession of property obtained by crime.

The passenger, a 31-year-old female from Cold Lake, was also arrested for possession of a controlled substance.

Both were released on appearance notices.

Ford F350 stolen

A resident reported his red 2007 Ford F350 had been stolen in Iron River on September 18th. He last saw the truck near 1630 on Highway 55, heading west. The pick-up has not yet been located, and the Bonnyville detachment has requested assistance from Lac La Biche RCMP.

Vehicle stolen, investigation ongoing

Another call reported a blue 2002 GMC Sierra with an unknown licence plate stuck unattended in a field along Township Road 621 that while still running. The caller found insurance papers belonging to a Wainwright male. Officers contacted the registered owner who was unaware his vehicle had been stolen.

The vehicle was towed to the Bonnyville Detachment for fingerprinting, and the investigation is still ongoing.

Property crimes continue

A red 2004 Ford F350 was also reported stolen from the parking lot of Ducharme Motors on September 21st, with the detachment asking for anyone with information to contact them.

A black 2017 Ford truck was also stolen that same night. The resident had left a wallet in the vehicle and the credit cards had been used in a nearby town. RCMP continue to investigate and are gathering further details of credit card transactions.

There was also a reported theft of personal items from multiple vehicles overnight on the 39th block of 41st Ave. Items missing include an iPhone 7, a turquoise Nintendo Switch in a white case, and a brown wallet.
