Elk Point franchise fees unchanged

Franchise fees charged in the Town of Elk Point will stay the same going in to 2021.

According to information included in the agenda package, the town raised the franchise fee for ATCO Electric from 3.6 per cent to 5 per cent in 2019. Administration recommended against further increases “due to increase last year and the economic conditions of Alberta.”

The franchise fee is charged on all electricity bills and is expected to contribute approximately $77,800 to the town’s budget in 2021.

Coun. Dwayne Yaremkevich moved to keep the ATCO Electric franchise fee the same. The motion carried.

The franchise fee for AltaGas Utilities will also stay the same, at 16 per cent. The franchise fee is charged on the delivery of gas to homes and businesses in the area. Elk Point anticipates $138,602 in revenues from the franchise fee in 2021.

Coun. Deb McQuinn moved to keep the AltaGas franchise fee the same. The motion carried.
