Robbery in Cold Lake North leads to arrest, nine charges

RCMP have arrested a Bonnyville man after a robbery earlier this week.

At around 7:00am on Tuesday morning, Cold Lake RCMP received a report of a robbery that occurred at an apartment complex on the city’s north side.

Police attended the scene and discovered that a male suspect entered one of the apartment units with a can of bear spray and demanded money from several victims inside.

The suspect then fled the area on foot after stealing money from one of the victims. The suspect was not immediately located in the area.

Cold Lake RCMP officers along with the newly formed Lakeland Crime Reduction Unit attended the apartment complex again hours later believing he was in the area.

The suspect was located at a nearby residence and attempted to flee on foot before being arrested and taken into custody without incident.

Christopher Kyle Olszowka (30) of Bonnyville has been charged with:

  • Robbery with an offensive weapon
  • Theft under $5000
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Possession of a prohibited weapon
  • Possession of break-in instruments
  • Resisting arrest
  • Failure to comply with release order
  • Failure to comply with probation order
  • Failure to comply with peace bond

Olszowka was also wanted on multiple warrants from the Cold Lake and Bonnyville RCMP Detachments at the time of his arrest.

He was remanded into custody after a judicial hearing and is scheduled to appear in St. Paul Provincial Court on Aug. 12, 2020.
