Vermilion to host leaders from across the province

The Alberta Urban Municipalities Association (AUMA) will be hosting one of their five meetings throughout the summer next week at the Vermilion Regional Centre.

President Barry Morishita will be coming from Brooks on Thursday, to meet with representatives of villages, towns, and cities to discuss timely issues and review news from the province.

Mayor Caroline McAuley said she is looking forward to hearing an updates on the potential provincial policing model, as well as Fair Deal panel implications for municipalities, local government fiscal framework act, and about recent changes to the local authorities election act.

She is looking to find out what they will be receiving for their policing dollars, as well as the impact of the oil and gas assessment model review and continued viability of surrounding rural municipalities and their ability to support neighbouring urban communities.

This year, the five locations will allow for more social distancing and for more remote urban community leaders to attend.

“It’s a great opportunity to showcase our businesses and our beautiful community,” said Mayor Caroline McAuley.

The event hopes to inspire tourism and highlight the community to attendees all over the province. In addition, it will show that such meetings are possible and kept safe through social distancing and by following provincial guidelines.

Overall, the session is expected to cover some important subjects and connect critical community leaders. This networking opportunity will make it easier for them to successfully address common goals.
