Vermilion kids hitting the books

Vermilion kids are excited to participate in the Public Library’s Summer Reading Program that began Tuesday and will run until August 22.

One hundred packages had been made up and after only three days, 56 children had already registered for the program.

Library Manager, Stuart Pauls said that participants aged 5–12 will receive crafts with their take-home kits as well as a bookmark to track the minutes they’ve read through the summer.

Each kit also contains several activities and puzzles which are sure to allow for some extra fun.

Staff has challenged the children to read 500 minutes, and they will have the opportunity to win two prizes if they reach their goal (one after reading 250 minutes and the other after completing all 500).

“With the program being offsite this year, children can choose to complete the activities from home, at the lake, or at their grandma’s house,” said Pauls.

“Hopefully it sparks the joy of reading as opposed to it being a chore.”
