RCMP helicopter, Search and Rescue help 17 ATV riders lost near Wolf Lake

Seventeen ATV riders required help from police, Bonnyville Search and Rescue, and an RCMP helicopter after being stranded and running out of fuel near Wolf Lake on Monday.

*The group is believed to have left on Sunday and remained in the bush for over 30 hours.

No injuries were reported, said Bonnyville S/Sgt. Sarah Parke, but poor cell service made communication difficult.

RCMP contacted Bonnyville Search and Rescue at roughly 10:00am Monday to help find the group, who ran out of fuel when trying to get out of the bush, police said.

Afterward, the RCMP helicopter was able to locate them and give GPS coordinates to the authorities on the ground to check their health.

Police said the group was prepared and had emergency supplies and food to get them through the ordeal.

By late afternoon, the authorities were able to retrieve the individuals and the ATVs safely from the bush.
