As people around the world continue to navigate the COVID-19 pandemic, Portage College is stepping up to provide a unique way to meet the needs of prospective and returning students.
In a first for northern Alberta, Portage College will host a Virtual Open House on Wednesday, May 20th with sessions in both the afternoon and evening.
Prospective students will have the opportunity to explore the supports and services available at Portage College while taking an online tour of the Lac La Biche, Cold Lake and St. Paul campuses. Featured in several behind-the-scenes videos will be classrooms and study areas, computer and simulation labs as well as student accommodations in Lac La Biche and St. Paul.
College staff including Student Advisors will be available for live, interactive, online questions, welcoming inquiries about more than 30 programs, career potential for graduates, academic requirements and funding. The sessions will be easily accessed through an online video conferencing app.
“Very simply, we care! And you will get that sense of caring when you meet the program folks and various support services at our open house,” says Portage College Dean Donna Feledichuk. “We want prospective students to get an idea of who we are as a college including our sense of community. We want them to be excited about the programs and amenities that provide a high quality post-secondary education but with a community feel.”
In addition to offering a way to learn about Portage College while physical-distancing, the virtual open house will also help increase accessibility for those who would normally be unable to attend an in-person open house event due to travel distances or other factors.
As an added bonus while visiting online, prospective students can enter for a chance to win a laptop! There will be many other prizes to be won including Portage College hoodies, cell phone chargers and tons of other great gear.
