Province confirms 64 new cases of COVID-19, one more death on Tuesday

There are 64 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Alberta on Tuesday for a total of 754.

Chief medical officer Dr. Deena Hinshaw confirmed a death in the past 24 hours, the province’s ninth due to the virus.

They were residing at the McKenzie Town Long Term Care centre.

There remains as of Tuesday four confirmed cases in the Bonnyville area and two in the Cold Lake area.

Two confirmed cases reside in the Vermilion River County area.

Forty-nine people have been hospitalized from the virus while 17 people are in intensive care.

There are up to 75 cases of COVID-19 that could be through community transmission.

The province confirmed 77 Alberta health-care workers have tested positive for coronavirus during the outbreak, many of which are travel-related or caught it at an Edmonton bonspiel in mid-March.

There is some cases improvement with 120 people of 754 that have recovered.

Fifty cases are confirmed in the North Zone, which extends just north of Edmonton to the provincial border, and extends as far west as Jasper, to the eastern border and Lakeland area.

The man in his 30s from the North Zone who passed away yesterday was from the High Prairie area and had underlying health issues.

The most affected age group in Alberta is of people aged 35-44 with roughly 120 people in that group who have tested positive.
