Fourth COVID-19 case in the Bonnyville area provincial map shows

The latest provincial data shows the Bonnyville area has a fourth case of COVID-19 as of Thursday.

This is after a third case was confirmed on Wednesday by the provincial map.

The provincial map takes roughly 24-48 hours to update during investigations which caused some fluctuation in cases last week.

The Cold Lake region and the Vermilion River County area remains with one confirmed case each.

Chief medical officer Dr. Deena Hinshaw confirmed 67 new cases of COVID-19 in Alberta on Thursday.

That’s a total of 486 in the province with 34 cases that could be due to community transmission.

However, 27 people have recovered from the virus, which is included in the province’s total numbers.

Twenty-one people are in hospital while 10 are in intensive care.

Dr. Hinshaw, chief medical officer, said 13 people have tested positive from the spread at the McKenzie Towne Continuing Care Centre in Calgary.

She said it will take some time to analyze if the spread is being contained due to the incubation period of the virus and believes there could be more cases to come from this care centre.

There are no updates at this time of spreads in other long-term care facilities which was outlined on Wednesday.

Tomorrow, an online assessment tool will be available for health-care workers who might feel symptoms.

It has been three weeks since the province’s first case of COVID-19 and two weeks since the province tightened mass gatherings to under 250 people.
