Kidsport Bonnyville hosting 2nd annual outdoor hockey tournament

Last year’s Kidsport Bonnyville outdoor hockey tournament.

Take your friends and enjoy a day of hockey on the Centennial Centre’s outdoor rink on February 29.

Kidsport Bonnyville is hosting their 2nd annual four-on-four ODR hockey tournament that Saturday to raise money to put local kids into sports.

Chair of the Bonnyville chapter, Brad Ollen, said they’d like to keep the momentum going.

“We had four teams in it last year and had a good little tournament. I’d like to get up to eight, but we’ll make it work whatever happens,” he said.

“One hundred per cent of the funds go to Kidsport Bonnyville a hundred percent nonprofit organization. One of 40 local chapters in Alberta. All the money raised stays right in Bonnyville to fund local kids into local sports.

“So it’s a great little organization we fund up to $300 per kid per year. It’s a local sport organization. You name it, if it’s a sustained sporting experience, then we can fund it. Whether that’s swimming or school sports or your regulars like hockey, soccer, and ball – we fund it all,” said Ollen.

The tournament is sponsored by Lucas Isley, Remax Bonnyville Realty.

He hopes to hit the ice again and participate.

“I’ve played hockey for as long as I can remember and stuff like that. It kind of fits in with my background with the outdoor hockey tournament, and everything like that. Sports has played a huge factor in my life as well. So it’s great that I can kind of give back in that way,” he said.

The tournament will be an all-day event for ages 18 and over on Feb. 29.

Teams can register for $500 and there is a maximum of eight team slots to get in by Feb. 21.

You can contact Brad Ollen to register your team at 780-201-2627 or [email protected]
