BCHS construction site mobilization pushed to March 2020
The BCHS modernization project could have a contractor mobilizing on the school site in March.
Recent projections had pinned site mobilization to begin in January of 2020, but Diane Carter, press secretary for the Ministry of infrastructure said that a contractor will not be in place until the end of January after the tender closes for the project.
“That is the next stage for those bidders to provide their full bid on the tender and then from that the bidder will be selected and that will happen by the end of January. The tender closes on January 16,” she said.
The school moved classes to the Centennial Centre for students and staff to facilitate an easier construction process in August.
A shortlist of five contractors was determined in the fall, with local companies falling short in the province’s criteria during the request for qualifications process.
Carter said Alberta Infrastruture has an open and transparent process.
“There’s a standard scoring criteria that we look at it and in selecting, it’s actually against our requirements under trade agreements and other various policies to give preferential treatment to local candidates,” she said.
Carter added that schedules are always subject to change on a variety of factors.
