Home Sweet Home

Tales from the Timebox: December 10th, 2019

Not a bad way to spend the weekend. Save gas. Play at your home rink, but a lot of work all the same.

Atom Avalanche

The Atom Avalanche parents did a fantastic job of hosting the first tournament of the year. Lots of thought and effort went into it to make it competitive, yet still keeping it fun. Teams from out of town included Edmonton, Lloydminster, Pierceland, Lac La Biche and Marwayne.
The Avalanche won both games in the round robin on Saturday. 9-3 over Edmonton and 7-0 against Lloydminster sending them to the A finals against Marwayne on Sunday.  In the first game early Saturday against the Edmonton Rockets, Wild Wyatt Fontaine scored a hat trick and added two assists. Two goals for the long legged lanky ‘Smitty’ Jaxon Smith. Free wheeling going coast to coast Braylee ‘Free Willy’ Lesyk with a goal and two assists. Kale ‘the Hawk’ Ockerman and ‘Without a Trace’ Morgan with one goal each.
In the second game for the Avalanche against the Lloyd Blazers the Hawk with a hat trick and two assists, Free Willy with two goals. Without a Trace sneaking behind the enemy lines scoring a goal and adding two assists. Solid defenseman ‘Boe Dog’ St. George with a goal and an assist. Wild Wyatt adding an assist.
The Avalanche making it to the A final on Sunday against one of the top teams in the North East league, the Marwayne/Dewberry Sled Dogs . The Sled Dogs goalie was very sharp in this one allowing only one goal even though the Avalanche fired 38 shots on him. The Avalanche lone goal scored by Wild Wyatt Fontaine assisted by J.R. Jackson Rawlake. Our Avalanche goalie was no slough either. Brendan ‘Buzz Saw’ Kadutski  doing a outstanding  job all weekend long.
The Sled Dogs the A final winners. Hats off to the Avalanche staff and parents for a job well done.

Peewee Avalanche

On the road for the past four to six weeks, the Peewee Avalanche must be getting a little tired of travelling and eating out all the time.
Saturday afternoon the Peewee team traveled to Irma losing 6 to 1. Top Gunner ‘ Crawford the only goal scorer assisted by Bo ‘Diddley’ Fontaine.   But the good news is this coming weekend the Peewee Avalanche will be hosting a five team tournament and we will be able to see them in action. They will play at least four games.

Novice Avalanche

The Novice Avalanche played a double header on Saturday afternoon up in Cold Lake. These games are four on four, using half ice and quick one and a half minute shifts. The game is usually about sixty minutes long. And they don’t keep score on the clock. But my private eye in the sky  tells me that  ‘Major Tom’ Melnyk was in net for the first game. A hat trick and three assists for Theo ‘Long Horn’ Loughran. A hat trick for William ‘Billy Bob’ Ballas. Two goals and an assist for Ryder ‘Rhino’ Malo. Jaxon ‘Magic ‘ Marcoux, Avree Lesyk and Jesse James Penner with two assists each. Hayden Badger adding one.
In the second game played after a short lunch break ‘Long Horn’ got the call to put on the big goalies pads ‘Magic’ Marcoux with four goals. A hat trick for Billy Bob Ballas plus two assists. Jesse James with two goals and an assist. Avree Lesyk with a goal and three assists.  Major Tom finding the twine with one goal and a helper. Although he didn’t score defenseman Hudson ‘Hammer’ Krankowski  saved  a sure goal by diving across the goal mouth and blocking a shot.

Bantam Avalanche

The Bantam Avalanche traveled to St Paul on Friday night winning 7-2. I bet most teams  are starting to try to figure out how to stop the Fontaine Brothers when they are in the line up. Not very easy to shut these two down. Both very rugged and have a eye for the net.  ‘Mick Jager’ and ‘Kid Kade’ combined for six goals. Three goals each plus three assist each. Cea Jay ‘Quick Draw’ Quinney pulled the trigger with a goal and an assist, rugged defenseman Sam ‘Spiderman ‘ Rogal adding two assists. His trusty side kick  Landon ‘the Magnificent ‘ Malachowski with an assist.
Saturday night the boys traveled east  to the Sask. border taking on the Onion Lake Chiefs winning this rough match 9 to 5 . Kid Kade with four goals and two assists. His brother ‘Mick Jager’ with a hat trick and three assists. The ‘Magnificient’ Malachowski with a goal and an assist. Quick Draw Quinney with a goal . Ryan ‘Ram Rod’ Cameron and Seth ‘Motorman’ Morton with an assist each.
