MLA Hanson hopes Justice Minister will hear local rural concerns on Tuesday

MLA David Hanson is encouraging residents affected by rural crime to come to the open house with the Minister of Justice Doug Schweitzer on Tuesday in St. Paul.

Residents can tell the provincial leader how rural crime has affected them and their community at the St. Paul Rec Centre from 5:00pm-7:00pm.

“It is a huge concern,” said Hanson on The Alberta Legislature on Friday.

“I encourage everybody from the Cold Lake area, even as far down south is Vermillion, please come up to St. Paul and spend some time with the minister. Let them know your frustrations. I’m hoping that we get some folks out from the RCMP as well and Justice,” he said.

The closest rural crime stop on the Minister Schweitzer’s tour has been Two Hills, where he stopped last week.

MLA Hanson said he’d like to get another stop in Bonnyville or Cold Lake if schedules permit.

St. Paul Mayor Maureen Miller was vocal in urging residents to show up considering the amount of complaints that have happened in the community.

Hanson believes it will be well-attended, even though he cannot make the open house due to a provincial committee in Edmonton at the same time.

“I’m pretty sure that we’ve had a couple of local town halls in the past where they’ve been filled to capacity. So I’m really expecting there to be a large crowd in St. Paul, so get there early,” he said.
