Precautionary hold and secure ends at F.G. Miller/Elk Point Elementary as RCMP investigate shots fired this morning

UPDATE

The emergency situation in Elk Point has resolved peacefully. Elk Point RCMP have arrested one adult male at the scene with assistance of the Emergency Response Team. There were no injuries during the response. The arrested man will be brought before a justice of the peace in the coming hours.

BACKGROUND

A hold and secure has ended for F.G. Miller Junior/High School and Elk Point Elementary School, said Glen Brodziak SPERD superintendent.

The situation stems from an RCMP report of shots fired this morning in the town and was done as a precaution, said Cpl. Chris Warren.

Elk Point RCMP with assistance from St. Paul GIS, Police Dog Services, and Emergency Response Team remain in Elk Point in search of the male suspect.

The schools were asked by Elk Point RCMP to go into a hold and secure at 2:35pm and were called off at 3:35pm.

The buses to pick students up were kept in a safe location and should be leaving the school shortly, said Brodziak.

RCMP were dispatched at 1:00am this morning to a complaint of a male with a firearm at a residence on 49 Street.

Shots had been fired in the area.

No injuries have been reported.

Sufficient police resources remain in place to ensure public safety.

RCMP advise the public not to post police locations to social media.
