Lakeland FC teams return with two Provincial golds, two fall out of medal contention

Two Lakeland soccer teams have returned from Provincials with gold medals after *four Lakeland FC teams qualified for the final tournament of the year.

The U13 boys and U15 Tier-3 boys teams with players from across the Lakeland area, won Provincials in Fort McMurray and Medicine Hat, respectively, over the weekend.

The U15 Tier-3 girls and U17 Tier-2 girls finished out of medal contention.

The U13 boys shut down the SW Sting from Edmonton 4-0 in Saturday’s opening game and kept the good play alive in their 3-1 win against Blizzard United.

Nate Wolgien scored the only goal in the semi-final match against WHU Revolution to have a shot for the gold medal 1-0.

Wolgien scored twice in the final along with Koen Gauthier and Etienne Bourgoin to win the gold medal for  Lakeland FC U13’s.

U15 take gold in Medicine Hat

The U15’s dominated the SW Sting in their first match 7-1, before beating the DUFC Snipers 5-1 in their last round-robin match.

Lakeland FC shut out the Spartans Hercules 5-0 to advance to the final.

In the gold medal match against the St. Albert Impact, Lakeland FC scored the lone goal to win 1-0.

The U15 girls Lakeland FC finished last in Provincial competition last weekend as well in Medicine Hat.

Their best result was a draw against the Blizzard Alliance 2-2 in the tournament’s opening game.

The U17 Tier-2 girls went winless in four games against SWU Santos, SW United, Blizzard Alliance, and SW Sting.

*A previous article stated that there were three teams going to Provincials. The U17 girls Tier-2 was missed.
