Three Lakeland FC squads heading to Provincials this weekend
Three Tier-3 soccer teams with players from across the Lakeland are heading to Provincials.
Lakeland FC U13 and U15 squads will play in their final tournament of the year this weekend in Fort McMurray and Medicine Hat, respectively.
The U13 team earned silver in the Red Deer Classic earlier this summer and won gold in the Calgary Cup tournament, beating the best time from that city, said coach Noah Teixeira.
Teixeira says they will have close to a full squad this weekend when they will take on the third-ranked team in Calgary and one of the top teams from Edmonton.
“We are hoping for gold. We’ll see how it goes,” he said.
“I believe in my team that they’ll be able to.”
Lakeland FC pools together the top players from Bonnyville, St. Paul, and Lac La Biche.
The U15 team will take on the Warriors from west Edmonton in their first game tonight. On Saturday they’ll face the DUFC Snipers from Calgary and the SW Sting from southwest Edmonton.
They won silver at the Calgary Cup and gold at the Red Deer Classic.
The U15 girls will also be in Medicine Hat this weekend.
They will face the Blizzard Alliance and Ardrossan Premier in the round-robin.
