Cold Lake RCMP on scene at firearms complaint

Cold Lake RCMP and their General Investigative Section were assisted by the RCMP Emergency Response Team and the Municipal District of Bonnyville Criminal Analyst, regarding an investigation after several reports of shots being fired on July 14, 2019.

On July 14, 2019 at approximately 10:00 p.m., Cold Lake RCMP responded to a firearms call near the marina in Cold Lake where it was reported gun shots were heard. Police arrived on scene and located spent shell casings and live ammunition.

Several additional calls were received that a male was driving around and disturbing residences and then fleeing in a vehicle. Police were able to identify the male and a search was executed at a residence near Sparrow Close where over fifty firearms, ammunition and prohibited weapons were seized.

Christopher Starchuk (29) turned himself into police on July 15, 2019 and was charged with the following offences:

  • Reckless discharge of a firearm
  • Careless use of a firearm
  • Transport of a firearm against regulations
  • Mischief
  • Possession of prohibited weapons (x3)
  • Unsafe Storage of Firearms

He was released after a judicial hearing and will be appearing in Cold Lake Provincial Court on July 24, 2019.
