Elk Point RCMP along with Eastern Alberta District Rural Crime Reduction Unit arrest six

On July 8, 2019 a joint operation was conducted by the Elk Point RCMP, the Eastern Alberta District Rural Crime Reduction Unit (EADRCRU), RCMP Air Services, and Cold Lake Police Dog Services (PDS) to locate and apprehend individuals who were committing crimes with stolen vehicles in the vicinity.

A stolen vehicle was observed by police and fled at a high speed into the community of Fishing Lake. A spike belt was deployed which immobilized the fleeing vehicle onto a rural property.

Three occupants of the vehicle fled on foot and were apprehended while three others continued to flee to another stolen vehicle that had been hidden in a nearby wooded area.

Joint effort

The RCMP helicopter and PDS were utilized to track the three suspects to the second vehicle. The second vehicle was lit on fire before the suspects fled again. Two stolen firearms that had been discarded by the suspects were also located by PDS during the track. One suspect was then located and arrested.

The RCMP helicopter continued observation from the sky when the two remaining suspects surrendered and were arrested by a RCMP Tactical Flight Officer after landing.

“Teamwork is the key to our success,” says Constable Guillaume Wilson (EADRCRU). “We will continue to utilize our specialized units in stopping priority offenders from committing further crimes in our communities.”

Six Arrested & Charged

Bryan Collins (24) of Cold Lake was charged with multiple offences, including:

• Flight from police
• Arson
• Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
• Possession of property obtained by crime
• Careless use of a firearm (X2)
• Possession of a weapon obtained by crime (X2)
• Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose (X2)
• Possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle (X2)

At the time of his arrest he was wanted on a warrant from Cold Lake.

Brandon Jacknife (18) of Cold Lake First Nation was charged with multiple offences, including:

• Flight from police
• Arson
• Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
• Possession of property obtained by crime
• Careless use of a firearm (X2)
• Possession of a weapon obtained by crime (X2)
• Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose (X2)
• Possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle (X2)
• Failing to comply with conditions of a recognizance (X2)

At the time of his arrest he was wanted on warrants in Cold Lake.

Cody Lacombe (21) of Fishing Lake was charged with multiple offences, including:

• Flight from police
• Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
• Possession of property obtained by crime
• Failing to comply with a recognizance

Sara McGillis (20) of Fishing Lake was charged with multiple offences, including:

• Flight from police
• Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
• Possession of property obtained by crime
• Failing to comply with a recognizance (X2)

Shayleen Moyah (20) of Fishing Lake was charged with multiple offences, including:

• Flight from police
• Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
• Possession of property obtained by crime
• Arson
• Careless use of a firearm (X2)
• Possession of a weapon obtained by crime (X2)
• Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose (X2)
• Possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle (X2)
• Possession of a weapon contrary to an order (X2)
• Being unlawfully in a dwelling house

Patricia Cardinal (24) of Elizabeth Metis Settlement was charged with multiple offences, including:

• Flight from police
• Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
• Possession of property obtained by crime

First Court Appearances

Collins and Jacknife were remanded into custody after a judicial hearing and are scheduled to appear in St. Paul Provincial Court today.

Lacombe, McGillis, Moyah, and Cardinal were released after a judicial hearing. Moyah is scheduled to appear in St. Paul Provincial Court today while the other accused are scheduled for Aug. 1, 2019.
