Letter to the Editor: Metis Settlements General Council commends grads and culture recognition

Dear Editor,

On Friday June 28, 2019, I had the opportunity to attend the graduation ceremonies for the Cold Lake High School. I want to commend the High School, the City of Cold Lake, his worship Craig Copeland, the grad committee, parents and graduates for a job well done.

Less than 50 years ago, Indigenous people were under oppression through Residential School, Sixties Scoop, Day Schools and other atrocities. We are learning from our past and Indigenous culture, language and regalia are now being accepted and a part of the schools’ curriculums and celebrations as evidenced at this graduation.

Thank you for your progressive movement in the inclusion of our cultures. Together we are changing the world one heart at a time.

-Herb Lehr, President of the Metis Settlements General Council
