Bonnyville Legion is sending twelve kids to camp this summer
The Bonnyville Legion is sponsoring twelve kids to go to camp this summer at Kiev’s K HI.
Jamie Beaupre, Royal Canadian Legion Branch 183 manager, said this is the first year they decided to fundraise to send kids to camp.
“We have sent kids to camp in Edmonton, but this is the first time that we did something like this,” said Beaupre.
“What really got me thinking about it was last year, the Legion sent a kid to a camp. And then I ended up sending the kid to camp myself last year and that made a difference in that kid’s life,” he said.
The money was raised from auctions, a couple of private donations, and the darts league which made a donation to the cause.
Part of the donations came from the Legion’s Steak and Crab night.
Beaupre says now the schools will decide the deserving kids who’ll go to the Ukrainian Youth Camp at Moose Lake.
“I went visited every school in Bonnyville, Glendon, Ardmore and Iron River and we’re sending a kid from each school,” said Beaupre.
Teachers will pick students who’ve never been to camp before.
