Silas Fagnan capped off his high-school football career in style.

The Bonnyville teen was named Team North MVP as the North beat the South 23-14 for the team’s first win in five years in Calgary at Shouldice Park on Monday.

Fagnan said he was ecstatic about receiving the honour.

“I was ecstatic. The south started with a touchdown on their second drive I believe, but after that we weren’t going to slow down,” said Fagnan.

“The fact that the North if they would’ve lost, it would’ve been five years in a row…both teams had to deal with some sketchy weather during the camp too.”

Fagnan, who commited to St. FX next season, rushed for a touchdown and Dominic Caco from Lloydminster scored on the defensive side of the ball.

Ethan Hartman kicked three field goals for the 23-14 final score.

“I couldn’t have asked for a better experience with the coaching staff. They were so professional…it would’ve been impossible for it to be bad,” said Fagnan.

“The coaches make it that much better.”

Each team practiced six teams over the May Long weekend before kickoff on Monday.

Fagnan will head down to St. FX in early August.

Locals play in Junior Bowl

Benjamin Waters and Logan Karenko from Cold Lake, Duncan and Connor Critch from Ardmore, and Odin Smith from Elk Point played for Team North in the Junior Bowl just before the Senior Bowl kickoff on Monday.

Team North lost a tight game 14-13.

It was the first Junior Bowl that Football Alberta has put on.

This camp is just step one of the development of the U16 Team Alberta, who will compete in the 2019 Football Canada Western Challenge in Kamloops in July.

Players for those games will be determined from their Junior Bowl showing.
