The Bonnyville Jr A Pontiacs have announced the signing of 18 year old defenseman Cam Newton. Newton has signed his intention papers, as well as his USA transfer documents in preparation for the 2019-2020 season.

Newton played last season for the Detroit Victory Honda in Detroit, Michigan, stated head coach of the Pontiacs, Rick Swan.

The 6’ 1” – 180 pound, right shot defenseman is from Dexter, Michigan and attended the USA National Select U15, U16 and U17 Development Camps. The best American born players earn invitation to the national camps through their performance at a series of state- and district-level camps held each season.

“Cam is a smooth skating blueliner that joins the rush and contributes offensively – combined  with tremendous character and intriguing size,” Swan boasted the 18 year old’s talents. “He was the top scoring defenseman on his U18 team last season with 6 goals and 7 assists in 28 games.”

The defenseman said he is equally looking forward to hitting the ice as a Pontiac. “I want to thank you for giving me the opportunity to become a Pontiac next season, I am ecstatic for the opportunity, and cannot wait to come out and get to work.”
