Two Elk Point female players saw success in spring hockey. Jadey ‘the Lady’ Capjack and Rylee ‘the Rocket’ Warawa play spring hockey for the Lakeland Lightning. The team is comprised of female players from Elk Point, Bonnyville, St. Paul, Cold Lake, Vermilion,  Goodsoil and Lac La Biche.

This past weekend they did very well, placing fifth out of twelve teams in the Alberta Champions Cup U-14 (bantam age) that was held in Edmonton. This was the first time they had played any games together.

Some of the city teams they met in the tournament actually play in a AAA league during the winter season so the competition was at a very high level, but our girls had no problem handling the challenge.

In Peewee boys action, the Lakeland Lightning team with ‘King Kong’ Konnor and ‘Saint Nick’ Penner on the roster won the gold medal down in Calgary at the Champions Cup. Cash ‘Paycheque’ Capjack is also a member of this team but suffered a fractured leg in a tournament last weekend and will be out of action with a cast on his leg for the next six to eight weeks.

Some more really good news this past week. Corbin ‘Crusher’ Ockerman has received a full four and a half year scholarship at Thompson Rivers University to play volleyball next year.

Former F.G. Miller Crusader, Parker Allan has signed a similar deal with the University of Lethbridge for track and field.

This coming weekend head coach Tyler Warawa and the Lakeland North Stars Bantam baseball team will travel to St. Albert for their first round of provincial baseball facing the Parkland Twins, High Prairie and the Edmonton Padres.
