Iron River Junior High basketball team celebrates winning season

The Iron River Dragons basketball team are celebrating a season of success on the court.

The Dragons only lost twice all season long and went undefeated when they hosted the Central Ward Championship on Feb. 23 to punch their ticket to the district championships.

There they beat Assumption, Aurora, and Nelson Heights to claim the district banner.

“Our team was made up of eight boys and four girls playing in the boys league,” said Dustin Blake, Dragons coach.

“I am so incredibly proud of each of my players and what we have accomplished this year. Their skills have come so far over the past two years, but it was their positive attitudes, teamwork, and camaraderie that was the game changer.

“We never doubted ourselves or our teammates and we always kept the energy level high and positive. A huge thank you goes out to all of our fans, parents, and sponsors Bonnyville Dodge and the Iron River Fire Department for our new jerseys and warm up shirts and for all of the amazing support they have given us.”
