Environment Canada has issued an extreme cold warning for the Lakeland region.

A period of very cold wind chills is expected. The coldest wind chill values will be near minus 40, said Environment Canada.

With an Arctic airmass moving into Alberta, very cold wind chills near minus 40 are expected tonight. Wind chills will moderate Monday afternoon into the minus twenties.

Monday night into Tuesday morning many regions will experience wind chill values near minus 40 again.

Relief from these very cold temperatures is expected by Wednesday afternoon.

This warning may need to be expanded as this Arctic airmass progresses.
