The Centennial Centre played host to the Lakeland Cup indoor soccer tournament for the first time in several years, said Bonnyville Soccer Association president Jose Teixeira.
Bonnyville’s U-15 boys team won gold after defeating Lac la Biche 2-0 in the final.
“It’s been a tough competition against all teams in the Lakeland, and we knew Lac la Biche was going to be a big threat,” said U-15 centre-midfielder Tanner Dadey.
“We were both playing very aggressive. Our defense stood up and kept them out of our zone.”
Dadey says the win is special because most of the players are on the young side, so they’ll be able to field a similar squad next year.
Cold Lake’s U15 girls and U17 boys teams each took home gold medals to advance to Provincials as well.
Bonnyville’s U-15 boys will go to Calgary for Provincials.
