Tales from the Timebox: December 26th, 2018

T’was three nights before Christmas and all through the big blue house the building  was buzzing  for the big Friday night contest!  The Midget Avalanche had been practising their lines all week in preparation to take on the Bonnyville Pontiacs. The boys may have had some other thought going on in their heads; but the coaching staff, Marty Bendixen, Greg Van Maarion, Tyson Stafford and Dean Rogal made sure  they were focused on the job at hand before they went off on their Christmas plans with the girlfriends.

Midget Scoreboard

Dustyn ‘Dusty’ Pankiw got the message and didn’t waste any time at all. He opened up the presents, scoring with the very first shot on goal with the game only 15 seconds old. Dusty must have known that Santa was in the house and was a good boy on this night so close to Christmas. This was the first time all year he didn’t come over for at least one trip to the sin bin to visit the old man.
Evan ‘Batman’ Ockerman with a blast from the point, getting the second goal. The Boys leading 2-1 after the first period. Into the second period the boys started to put some more coal into the fire.  ‘Lightning Liam’ Ludlage lighting up the Christmas tree with one.  Charlie ‘Chuckles’ Rogal  also getting in on the act putting one up on the roof top, the score now 4-2 after forty minutes.
Into the third period, Dallas ‘Cowboy’ Bristow riding through the night to deliver one. And topping off the Christmas cake with two goals in the third period was good old  ‘King Cole’ Bendixen. Three wise men with three assists for Nick ‘Sparky’ Anderson, Lightning Liam and ‘Hank the Tank’ Rogal.  Hayden ‘Hotwheels’ Ludlage adding one more for good luck.
Not on the scoresheet with any points, but certainly noticed doing a terrific job of holding the blue line on the rush, and cranking out some wicked slapshots from the point; that left a few Pontiac players leaving the ice stinging, was Jace ‘the Stafford Streak’. Playing the part of scrooge, goalie ‘Sexy Slader’ Hardcastle was very tight tonight and not giving out any freebie  presents in the way of goals. The final 7-2  for the Avalanche.

Atom Avalanche

Dashing through the snow off to Frog Lake we go! The Atom Avalanche played the top team in their league the T-Birds on Saturday in Frog Lake. The coaching staff Jeff Morgan, Jonny Kadutski, Jacques DeMossiac and Tyson Ballas had their little Elfs ready to go for this one too. The Avalanche looking great taking a early two goal lead on goals by Evett ‘Snoop Dog’ Smereka and ‘Without a Trace’ Morgan. Snoop Dog doing it all alone scoring top shelf where mom keeps all the cookies. Without a Trace getting his nose dirty getting in the crease scoring on a rebound off a shot by the Snoop Dog.
Starting the second period, with some juice  ‘Run Run Raif’ the ‘Rug Rat’ Evans Anderson getting the green light going coast to coast to deliver one. The game now tied at three all after forty minutes.
Into the third period sitting on the doorstep knocking on the door, ‘Hurricane Kayl’ Warawa would bang one home, off a shot from the ‘Notorious Nolan’ Ballas. A special present for her grandparents in the stands who came to game just to watch their little angel perform .  But the Grinch of Christmas, the T-Birds would steal two more to make the final 5-4.
And now for the K. A. Campbell quote of the week. “I had all my own teeth and wanted to keep it that way.” -Major League Pitcher Tom Glavine on whey he decided to play professional baseball over hockey.
