Town currently recruiting for a peace officer
The Town of Bonnyville is looking hire a peace officer as soon as possible and is currently recruiting, says Mayor Gene Sobolewski.
This comes after the province authorized the Town’s request from February to have more security in that position.
In the first draft of the 2019 capital budget, the town has put aside $100,000 in wages and benefits for the position.
It also means the town no longer has to contract the work to local RCMP officers, and this person can focus on the bylaws.
“We wanted to make sure we have a control that we have an emphasis on bylaw control, and now with cannabis legislation and some of the bylaws we’re passing, we’re definitely going to need some boots on the ground,” said Mayor Gene Sobolewski.
The new cannabis bylaw in town which restricts public smoking would be a newer wrinkle a peace officer would have to enforce.
