RCMP Integrated Traffic Unit along with Alberta Sheriffs make drug and weapons arrest
A 25 year old Lac La Biche man has been arrested for several drug charges after RCMP discovered methamphetamine, cocaine, MDMA, Benzodiazepines and a taser in a vehicle he was driving.
The Boyle/Athabasca RCMP Integrated Traffic Unit (ITU) along with Alberta Sheriffs were patrolling the areas in and around Lac La Biche, Alberta in the early morning hours of Oct. 18, 2018.
Shortly after 2:00 a.m., an Alberta Sheriff conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the Town of Lac La Biche. While speaking with the driver the Sheriff noticed what appeared to be a “club” type of weapon visible inside the car. Further examination of the club revealed it to be a large, heavy flashlight which when a certain button was pressed, conducted electricity was deployed similar to that of a Taser.
An RCMP member of the traffic unit was also on scene and the driver was arrested for possession of a prohibited weapon. Further search of the driver and his vehicle revealed he was in possession of numerous different drugs and items which are used to traffic illicit drugs. Police seized approximately 30 grams of methamphetamine, 4.5 grams of cocaine, along with several tablets of MDMA (ecstasy) and benzodiazepines.
Ali Cunningham (25) of Lac La Biche was charged with the following:
- Possession of prohibited weapon
- Possession of a dangerous weapon
- Possession for the purposing of trafficking (x8)
He was released with conditions and will be appearing in Lac La Biche Provincial Court on Dec. 10, 2018.
