Bonnyville RCMP looks to make a positive impact on driving behaviours
The Bonnyville RCMP will be taking part in an annual initiative that aims to make the roads more safe to travel on during peak times.
Operation Impact is an annual awareness campaign focused on encouraging safe driving behaviours. Taking place from Friday October 5th to Monday October 8th over the Thanksgiving weekend when more people are travelling and traffic collisions are more frequent.
S/Sgt. Sarah Parke, for the Bonnyville Detachment, explained there will be some particular behaviours the RCMP will be focusing on. These behaviours that put drivers, passengers, pedestrians and other vulnerable road users most at risk:
- Alcohol & Drug Impaired Driving
- Distracted Driving
- Aggressive Driving
- Seat Belt Use
“Our country has one of the highest motor vehicle fatality rates among high-income countries in the world and impaired driving remains the leading criminal cause of death and injury in Canada,” explains S/Sgt. Parke. “Impaired, distracted and aggressive drivers not only put themselves at risk, but also others with whom they share the road. 100% of impaired, distracted and aggressive driving incidents are preventable.”
“The Bonnyville RCMP is committed to increase public compliance with safe driving measures in order to save lives and reduce injuries on our roads. We believe it will help us get one step closer to making Canada’s roads the safest in the world,” stated S/Sgt. Parke.
