SPCA’s Raise the Woof This Weekend
A local non-profit’s biggest fundraiser of the year is this Saturday.
Raise the Woof, put on by the Bonnyville and District SPCA, features three comedians and a meal at the Senior’s Drop-In Centre.
This year’s entertainment is Edmonton-based comedians Ryan Short and Alex Fortin, and the headliner Cory Mack from Calgary.
“It is our one big fundraiser for the year, and it’s always in the fall. It’s a good time,” said Sharon Ducharme, fundraiser.
The creator of Raise the Woof, James Uloth, started the event as a way for local SPCA’s in the United States to cover costs after discovering that they operate with no government funding.
That’s the current predicament for the SPCA, who have requested sustainable funding from the Town and Municipal District of Bonnyville. Otherwise, they say they’ll have to close next year.
“We have been able to fundraise for 18 to 19 years. Now it’s come to the point where we know it’s getting to big. It’s way more than what we can handle right now without support of the public and of our councillors both Town and M.D.
“We’re hearing really good things about what’s coming up for us, and this fundraiser is just a really fun night.”
The meal is catered by C’est la Vie Catering, and a bottle of red and white wine has been donated to each table by B&R Eckels.
Cocktails begin at 5pm and the comedians take to the stage at 8pm.
Tickets are $50 and are still available.
Last month, Ducharme Motors donated $3660 to the SPCA after their monster truck event.
