Saddle Lake Man charged after assaulting police with weapon

An 18 year old Saddle Lake man was charged after wielding a knife in a violent manner and fleeing from police.

Last week, St. Paul RCMP responded to a residence in Saddle Lake as a result of a call for police assistance.

Police attended the residence, on August 23, and located a male with a knife. Following the confrontation with police, the armed male suspect quickly fled the residence on foot. No one was injured.

Members of the Eastern Alberta District Rural Crime Reduction Unit (EADRCRU), St. Paul Police Dog Services (PDS) and Traffic Services quickly arrived to assist. The male was tracked through the woods and apprehended without further incident.

Landon McGilvery (18) of Saddle Lake was charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

  • Assault on a police officer with a weapon
  • Assault with a weapon
  • Failing to comply with a probation order

He was held in custody following a judicial hearing and will be appearing today in St. Paul Provincial Court.
