St. Paul RCMP and rural crime reduction unit execute search warrant

On June 30, 2018, St Paul RCMP Detachment with the assistance of the Eastern Alberta Rural Crime Reduction Unit (EADRCRU) conducted a search warrant at a residence in Goodfish Lake.

“The EADRCRU unit will continue to assist detachments in reducing crime and keeping our communities safe by taking drugs or weapons off the street,” says Constable Guillaume Wilson of the Eastern Alberta Rural Crime Reduction Unit.

Two males were arrested without incident and a significant quantity of a substance believed to be cocaine was seized, as well as cannabis, various weapons, Canadian currency, and other articles.

A stolen quad from Smoky Lake was also recovered on the property. Intelligence gathering and teamwork played a key role in the success of this investigation.

Waylon Sparklingeyes (26) and Dallon Ward (24) are facing several criminal charges which include:

  • Possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of a controlled substance
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of a weapon obtained by crime
  • Possession of property obtained by crime

Dallon Ward is also facing charges for failing to comply with a probation order and possession of a weapon contrary to an order.

Both of the accused are being held in custody and are scheduled to appear in St. Paul Provincial Court on July 5, 2018.

With the help of advanced analytical tools, intelligence focused officers and civilian crime analysts, each district Crime Reduction Unit is able to carry out targeted initiatives that identify crime hotspots and target repeat offenders.
